Three letters. One gospel. A life changed by grace.
Admit
The first step toward salvation is the most honest one: admitting that we are sinners. Not just that we have done wrong things, but that we are, by nature, separated from a holy God. This is not a comfortable truth — but it is a necessary one.
God does not ask us to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. He asks only that we come honestly. Admitting our need is not defeat — it is the doorway to grace. Every person who has ever been saved walked through this door first.
The Bible is clear: "all have sinned." There are no exceptions. There is no one righteous enough on their own. But this is not the end of the story — it is the beginning.
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Romans 3:23"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Romans 6:23"Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
John 8:24"I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
Luke 13:3Believe
To believe is more than intellectual agreement. The Bible says even the demons believe — and tremble. True belief is trust: placing the full weight of your eternity on the person and finished work of Jesus Christ.
What must you believe? That Jesus Christ is the Son of God. That He died on the cross as the full payment for your sins. That He was buried, and that God raised Him from the dead on the third day. This is the gospel — the good news.
This belief is not something you manufacture through effort or emotion. It is a response to what God has already done. He made the way. He paid the price. He offers the gift. Belief is simply receiving it.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
John 3:16"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."
John 5:24"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Romans 10:9Call
Calling on the name of the Lord is the outward expression of inward faith. It is the moment you turn from trusting yourself and place your trust entirely in Jesus. It is not a magic phrase — it is a sincere cry of the heart.
God has made a promise: whoever calls shall be saved. Not might be saved. Not could be saved. Shall be saved. This is the certainty of the gospel. It rests not on the strength of your prayer, but on the faithfulness of the One who hears it.
You can call on Him right now. There is no special place, no special posture, no special words required. Simply speak to Him honestly — acknowledging your sin, trusting in Jesus, and asking Him to save you. He will.
"For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Romans 10:13"And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Acts 2:21"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned."
Mark 16:16The ABCs are a simple way to remember the heart of salvation: Admit, Believe, and Call on Christ. Scripture also shows what a faithful response to the gospel includes:
Hear the good news of Jesus Christ.
Believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
Repent of sin and turn toward God.
Confess Jesus Christ as Lord.
Be baptized in obedient faith.
Be faithful as you follow Him.
These do not replace the ABCs. They help explain what the ABCs look like when someone truly responds to Jesus.
If you have admitted your need, believed in Jesus, and are ready to call — the next step is a prayer. It does not have to be perfect. It just has to be sincere.
